Brandon Burling TailGunner Review

High Noon "Tailgunner"

High Noon was generous enough to provide me with one of their top performing holsters to try out and review.  My first challenge was to pick which holster I was going to review. I chose the Tailgunner due to its unique design and style. I carry IWB majority of the time and like most, continue to search for that perfect IWB holster. When you carry IWB all day long a comfortable holster is crucial.
I like the design and thought put behind the Tailgunner with its stabilizer wing. The stabilizer wing helps ensure that the holster doesn't shift or rotate while wearing it.

When the box arrived with the new holster at the house, I couldn't wait to get home to open it.  I opened the box as soon as I walked through the door, even before I acknowledged my wife. Mistake, always greet the wife after a long day at work.

Inside the box was a neatly packaged holster from High Noon. I took the holster out of its package and was instantly amazed by the quality of the leather. I have a few other leather holsters, but none match the quality of leather in this one. It is very stiff and strong. Very well formed, made with high quality leather. High Noon, unlike most holster manufacturers, makes its holsters with the rough side of the leather out. The purpose of this is for extra grip against your clothing.

The J clip on the holster is one of the most sturdy and strongest I have ever seen on a holster. Once you get the clip on your belt, it is not coming off with out a work out.  You want your holster to stay close by your side and not have to worry about it.  This is a good thing however, I could not get the holster off in certain positions without help due to the strength and grip from the clip.

The holster opening is made with two pieces of leather and a synthetic reinforced holster opening, that is crush resistant for one handed reholstering help it remain open for re-holstering. It is very easy to draw from and re-holster. Each holster is custom made for each particular model of firearm. They all are open bottomed, which keeps build up from occurring at the bottom of the holster. This holster is definitely well thought out and designed.

One of the things about this holster that distinguishes it from other holsters and really impresses me is the sight track that is inside the holster. It is stitched in to protect your sights.  It is a molded synthetic material and it allows your sights to glide in smoothly when holstering your firearm.

You know how when you get a new couch, it just isn't as comfortable as your old one?  I felt that way about this holster at first. I wore it for about two weeks and once it started to loosen up a bit, it became more comfortable.  I think it is a little bit thicker than some holsters due to its quality leather, therefore I would recommend wearing your pants a size larger for comfort if they are tight fitting right now. For those of you that can slide your whole hand inside your pants with no problem, you should be ok with the same size pants. I found that this holster is more comfortable in the 5 o'clock position rather than the 3 or 4.  On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this holster at an 8 for comfort and a 10 for quality. I wish I could try out all of High Noon's holsters because I would probably own about 6 or 7 of them, one for each day of the week!!
