We like to use rough side out for our inside the waistband holsters (Click here for an extreme close up view) while not as  pleasing to the eye as the smooth side out, it does a MUCH better job of gripping your pants and not shifting. The majority of the guys who use there guns for a living seem to want ruff side out. We agree with them.
